Carlsbro CSD130 Review: They Did A Good Job With This Entry-Level Kit
We focus on the Carlsbro CSD130 in this latest review. While it’s not the most familiar brand name, it has some decent word of mouth as a kit that won’t break the bank, but will still afford you a lot of fun, with a creative design and easy playability.

The lingering question is, as always – is it worth it? It’s already moderately priced compared to some of the other electronic drum kits on the market, so we were excited to put it to the test and see what this small wonder can do.
At a Glance – Our Initial Thoughts
The CSD130 is a compact kit that trades size for strength where it counts. We think players will love its portability as well as its large sound, and it can be tailored to fit all playing styles. As with all electronic kits, it provides a quieter drumming experience for those that are confined to small spaces, like apartments and condos. Brushing up on your chops is simple using the metronome in unison with any drum apps you might have loaded on your devices, and it’s flexible enough to allow for recording either for quick playback or hooked up to a computer. We think you will enjoy what this kit is throwing down.
What’s In The Box
Outfitted with rubber pads for a smooth and silky feel, this 38 lb. the electronic drum kit is less than 3 feet wide and makes for a small size, but also an enjoyable time playing tunes.
The provided drum module contains over 250 sounds that can be customized by you across 10 kits, providing perfect presets that are flexible enough to keep the creative juices flowing. Also included are 20 pre-loaded kit styles (everything from jazz, to rock, to pop, to hip hop) which allow you to change things up whenever you feel the need. You also get recording with playback capability, some add-on effects like reverb, and a metronome to keep you in time at all times.
There is also a good amount of connectivity on the back of the brain that allows for use with additional applications. A USB port, as well as MIDI in/out ports, give you much needed support when you want to connect the kit to a computer for demoing songs. You also get a 1/8” auxiliary input, which allows you to connect your device (phone/tablet) for playing along with MP3s, or drum apps. Additionally, there is a stereo left/right 1/4” line out for sending the kit sound to an amplifier or speaker system. As is standard on these e-kits, a 1/8” headphone output is included so you can listen through your cans while playing.
Getting into the specs of the pads themselves, this is an 8 piece kit with pad sizes that are smaller than normal, which could be a deciding factor as its size can make it feel less “legit” that some e-kits. The snare is 7.5 inches in size and dual-zone for cross-playing and rim shots. The rack and floor toms are the same sizes, while the kick drum uses a small, 2-inch pad for the beater to smack against. The cymbals are all 10-inch sizes, and floating floor pedals allow you perfect positional placement when triggering the hi-hats and kick drum.
The triple leg frame provides sturdy support for the entire unit, so you can hit the pads as hard as you’d like without fear of anything falling over. Carlsbro also includes a drum key for tuning the pads, a pair of sticks, cables that connect everything to the module, a power supply, and cable management strips so you can clean up loose wires for a clean look and unobstructed performing.
How Does It Stand Out?
Customize Your Kit
One of the best things about this kit is that you can customize the pads however you prefer. With 10 programmable kits available, you have no shortage of options, and you can customize them for whatever works best for you. Some players only use 1 rack tom, so if this sounds like your kit setup, you can change one of the tom pads to a ride, and swap out the ride cymbal for a second crash. Little things like that go a long way in making consumers happy. Carlsbro also allows you to set the pad volume and sensitivity, helping dictate response time and giving a more intuitive feel while performing.
Small But Mighty
This kit is roughly 3 x 1.5ft when set up, making it a very small kit that can fit into rooms where extra space is hard to come by. The nice thing about it is that the collapsible size is even smaller at 2.3 x 1.5 feet, making it ideal for storing out of the way – in corners, closets, or under the bed. This compact design also makes transporting it relatively easy, as it is light enough to carry, and you can load it in and out of your car with no trouble at all.
Built For The Modern Drummer
The drum module gives you excellent functionality and flexibility to customize everything however you see fit. With recording, playback and a metronome built-in, you can practice the parts you are struggling with until you get them right, speeding up the process and increasing your drumming proficiency. The high-quality sounds help provide a realistic experience and you can plug in your device for playing along with your favorite tracks as well. Everything is at the touch of a button with this kit!

Our Final Thoughts
For a company that is not really known, Carlsbro did a good job with this entry-level kit. While it doesn’t include a drum throne, most of their competitors don’t either. What they do include is everything else that is needed to have this up and running quickly, so you can spend more time playing and less time not. The rubber pads can be a bit loud at times, but if you are willing to overlook that minor issue, the price is right and we think its one of the best entry-level electronic kits you can invest in.
