Levoit LV-H132 Review: Big on Performance, Small on Size

The LV-H132 air purifier from Levoit is a popular model that is sleek in its appearance, and impressive in its operation. It is suited to both small and medium-sized rooms and is available in either white or black to match any type of home decor.

Not overly large in size, but with the capacity to clean rooms multiple times over, this purifier works to rid your environment of mold, dust, pet dander, pollen, bacteria, and any other allergens and that might be floating around in the air. It also has a carbon filter that can help eliminate any strong odors like smoke or last night’s dinner.

This air purifier gets rave reviews so we wanted to put it under our microscope and see what all the fuss is about. Our in-depth review will tell you all you need to know about this acclaimed model.

Specs & What’s In The Box?

Triple Filter Action

Levoit ensures that 99.97% of your environment gets scrubbed clean using a 3 filter approach. The pre-filter is the gatekeeper that captures large particles such as hair, fur, lint, and dust. Any particles that get past it will be at the microscopic level. These include dust mites, mold spores, pollen, pet dander, and bacteria. Filtering these out is an H13 (medical grade) high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter. The third stage in the filtration system is an activated carbon filter, which takes care of odors from cooking and smoking, as well as any gases that are emitted from household materials like paint and carpets.

Portable Power

This air purifier uses a cylindrical design for 360-degree filtration. It is also not overly large, measuring 12.6 inches high x 7.9 inches in diameter. Coupled with its lightweight, the unit is easy to move from the floor and onto a shelf or tabletop, and you can bring it around your home if there are multiple rooms that need to be purified.

Efficient Circulation

Due to its 360-degree design, this air purifier is extremely efficient in pulling in air from all directions and expelling it quickly. You should make sure the unit is placed in a central location (not in a corner of the room), so it pulls in as much air as it can. It is meant to be used in small and medium-sized rooms, returning 4 complete changeovers of the air every hour. It has a clean air delivery rate (CADR) of 40 cubic feet per minute, making for fast and effective cleaning experience.

What Makes It Unique?

Easy Operation

There are multiple control buttons on the top edge of the air purifier that makes for simple operation. Aside from the power button, the unit comes with a large neon light that, while visually striking, can be intrusive for those that need total darkness while sleeping. You can choose between two brightness settings, or you can turn the light off completely. A speed button will let you regulate how fast the fan spins (low/medium/high), and Levoit has also included a filter replacement alert light to notify you when its time to change the filter.

Soothing Slumber

The LV-H132 is an upgraded model from a previous version, and with that upgrade comes a brand new motor system. The new motor improves the purifier’s efficiency and lifespan while working to keep the unit as quiet as possible. This is on full display when you want to use the purifier at night, as the low fan setting is whisper-quiet at 25 dB. Conversely, the high fan clocks in at 46 dB, which is still relatively low when it comes to noise.

Safety & Peace of Mind

Unlike some competitor’s air purifiers, this model from Levoit is 100% ozone free, making it extremely safe for use. Purifiers that release ions and UV can produce trace amounts of ozone, which is harmful to humans and can cause lung issues. Additionally, a 2-year warranty is included with the LV-H132, so you are covered in case something goes wrong with the unit in that time frame.

Does this air purifier come with a remote control?

Unfortunately, Levoit does not provide a remote control for this model. It has minimal operating features and is meant to be left running for long periods of time.

How often does the filter for this air purifier need to be replaced?

In certain situations, HEPA filters can go as long as 1 year without needing replacement, but for optimal performance, it is recommended to replace the filter every 6 to 8 months.

Can I wash the filter?

The filter is meant to be replaced, so washing it will do little in the way of restoration. The bottom cover of the unit is removable, giving you access to replace the filter. We recommend keeping the unit clean at all times (especially around the pre-filter) by vacuuming out any debris that may build up.

Is it safe to use this air purifier overnight?

Perfectly safe. Levoit has to make sure the unit meets strict safety requirements before it can be sold on the market. While there isn’t a sleep mode function, you can run it on the low fan setting and turn off the unit’s light for a peaceful night’s rest.

Is the replacement filter expensive?

Not at all. It’s actually one of the cheaper filters available. You can purchase a single filter for under $20, and Levoit also sells a 2-pack for around $30. You should get at least 6 months of use from them, although some reviewers have claimed to use their purifier non-stop for over a year and still haven’t had to change the filter.

If you are looking for an air purifier that is big on performance, and small on size, this is a great option. It can be used in bedrooms, offices, and nurseries, allowing you and your family to breathe well whenever you are home.
