OneOdio A71 Review: Best Budget Headphone Set for Electronic Drums
If you are a drummer that is looking for a headphone set that has numerous features, then this over-ear model might be right for you. They are advertised as being sound-isolating, with great volume and various features that can enchant your musical experience, all of that at an affordable price of only $39.99. OneOdio is a Hong Kong brand that many traditional buyers don’t know of, as it’s low-priced but high in quality products have filled up the Amazon sales charts while remaining mostly unnoticed in the stores. As previous models have been a huge success, we have decided to try the A71 unit for ourselves and to see what do we get for such a cheap price.

Driver / Diaphragm Size
The A71’s drivers have a diameter of 40mm which is pretty standard for most headphones in this price range. They are made of neodymium, which is the best material for this kind of sound. If you are a geek for numbers, then the following information will be telling everything you need to know: they have an impedance of 32 Ohms and sensitivity of 110dB +- 3dB, their transmission frequency ranges between 2402 MHz to 2480 MHz, with a frequency response of 20 Hertz and 20 kilohertz. All of this provides a professional quality sound which is noticed in its powerful bass sound, clear vocals, and perfectly crisp high tones. The details are sometimes a bit lacking, but as we’re talking about extremely affordable headphones, that is nothing to complain about. In fact, they are probably the best sounding non-high-end headphones for drummers there are.
Isolation
These headphones block most of the outside noise, while also leaving you just enough space to be aware of your surroundings. They are said to block around 80% of the noise, and we can confirm that. You can still hear if someone behind you is screaming and you will hear traffic noises that are nearby, but you can listen with full enjoyment, without being disturbed by the outside world. This is also rather useful for drummers, as noise isolation will help them save their hearing from the loud, punching sound their instruments make. The A71 model is also excellent in preventing the sound bleeding from the headphones, as people around you won’t even know whether or not you have your music turned on. All in all, they get an A- on this part.
Comfort
When you take a first look at the model, you will notice that they don’t have memory foam earpads and that the pad holes themselves are a bit on the small size, which wasn’t promising. However, this proved to be a misconception as they ended up being rather comfortable. They will sit well on your head and press firmly onto your ears, but not enough for it to hurt, as the foam inside the cup is very soft and gentle, like on many much more expensive models. The headband’s inside is made from a thick squishy pad and on top of it, it is adjustable, which will provide for extra comfort or firmness, depending on what it is you need. Also, the headphones don’t need any break-in period, as they will sit well on you even without stretching first. Another bonus point comes from the model’s lightweight build. As they are made of plastic, other than small and short-lasting pressure on your ears you won’t even feel you’re having them on, even if you are wearing them with glasses. In short, this is a model that can be used for long drumming sessions, even if you tend to produce music during the bigger part of the day.
Durability
The model is build of thin, hollow plastic, which does mean that you shouldn’t drop them too many times. Another downside to this is that the product is shipped from China is nothing but a plastic bag, which means that they can arrive broken due to the lack of care during shipment. That didn’t happen to us, though, and we’ve heard that it’s easy to get a return in no time without any additional costs, so this shouldn’t be too big of a concern.
Apart from that, the product works great and for a long time, without any malfunctioning. You won’t suddenly just lose sound on one side, and the cord won’t break. With just a little care, you will have a pair of headphones that you can enjoy in for a long period of time.
Portability
When it comes to portability, these headphones most definitely get the highest score. They are foldable, which means that you can easily pack them in most bags without worrying that they will break – but as they are made of thin material, we still don’t suggest that you toss that bag around. At the same time, the earcups can rotate for up to 90 degrees, which makes them not only easier to carry around but also adaptable for single-sided monitoring. The cords are detachable, so this is one less thing you should worry about when putting them in a bag.
Sadly, they don’t come with any firm packaging, but due to their lightweight and pliability, this won’t be a nuisance. Just put them in your travel bag and you’re good to go!
Connection
The base version of the headphones comes with a long-style cord that is 9.8 feet (3 meters) long, which means that it will be good not only for your e-drum kit but also if you simply want to listen to the TV from your couch. The cable has a plug from both sides – the 6.35mm and the 3.5mm one – so you can easily connect it to both iPhone and audio interface. If you hate all those cables – don’t worry! The good news is that if you want to buy a wireless version of the device, you now can – but it will cost you an extra buck as that model (A70) can be found for an approximate price of $55.
How Does It Stand Out?
Adapter free
The model has a dual-duty cable, which means that it has 6.35mm and 3.5mm gold-plated plugs on each end of the cable. This will enable you to have an adapter-free life no matter what you use these headphones for.
Single-sided Monitoring
The earpads can rotate for 90 degrees, which makes them perfect for single-ear monitoring. As the headband is adjustable and soft, you can mix your music for hours with maximum comfort!
24-month warranty
If you are worried about them malfunctioning, don’t be. They come with a two-year warranty, so if anything happens you can always replace them for free.
F.A.Q.
What’s the difference between A70 and A71 models?
Are they good for listening to music casually?
Can you talk on your phone with them?
Do they have volume control?
Can these headphones be used with a piano or an electric drum kit?
Will this work with a bass guitar?
Can you plug this into an iPhone device and an AMP at the same time?
Conclusion
These are probably the best budget headphones for electronic drums you can find. They are extremely easy to work with and the sound is adjusted for both professional electronic drummers and music lovers. They are even great for gaming or watching TV.
They are comfortable, despite not looking like that at first glance. The design is amazingly done and until you touch them you won’t even realize that they are made of plastic. The downsides to them are their fragility and also that they are usually shipped from China, which means that you can wait for around a whole month for them to arrive. However, at a price point that can go even lower than the standard $39.99, they are the best deal you can get.
